Lucuma is an exotic fruit from Peru with ancient reverence in Andean culture. Lucuma trees in the Andes are known to live over 500 years and still produce fruit!

Lucuma is delivered to you as a beautiful tan powder with flavors that hint of maple and cashews. Our Lucuma is dried at low temperatures, ground gently, and then sifted to produce a fine powder which is an excellent source of carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals - including remarkable concentrations of beta-carotene, Vitamin B3 (niacin), and iron. Lucuma has a full-bodied subtly sweet flavor and has long been a culinary favorite of Peruvians and superfood enthusiasts worldwide. Lucuma-flavored ice cream is even more popular than chocolate ice cream in Peru!

How To Use Lucuma Powder

Lucuma is considered a healthy alternative sweetener as it lends a sweet taste to recipes, but is very low in sugars. With naturally occurring beta-carotene, niacin, and iron, lucuma powder is a welcome antidote to notorious “empty calorie” sweeteners. A deliciously versatile dessert ingredient, lucuma blends well to make alluring smoothies, puddings, and ice creams, and can also be used as a flour in exotic pies and pastries Lucuma may be added to all kinds of beverages, smoothies, and desserts. Lucuma powder can add creamy delight to any smoothie. Use this in place of agave nectar.

Like Maca and Tocotrienols, Lucuma helps to draw together (and emulsify) fats and oils with sugars and polysaccharides. For example, Lucuma is great to add to a recipe or beverage containing cacao nibs (50% fat and oil) and yacon root syrup (sugars and polysaccharides). It will draw the cacao and yacon together in flavor and texture. Another example, Lucuma is great to add to warm Pau D'Arco or Cat's Claw tea with a slice of Cacao Butter (oil) and a teaspoon of Manuka Honey (sugar and polysaccharides).
